Using the Category Menu

The Category Menu is displayed as part of the "Main Menu" which is the first screen
visible after starting MiniCat.  The Categories are collections or groupings of
information items that allows the user to find and access the information in a logical
manner.  A Catalog may contain up to 99 Categories which are displayed as a list of
"buttons" down the right hand side of the screen.  Click on the down/up arrows at the
bottoms of the main menu to scroll through these buttons.  Click on a button to access
the information contained in that Category.

MiniCat Interface Overview

The MiniCat is simple publishing format based on images and text.  Many full color
photo-quality images can be organized together with several pages of text to form
"Catalogs" of information.  Each catalog can contain many "Categories" which in turn
contain information "Items" each made up of an image and/or text.

The MiniCat format stores these information "Items" in a special file format that
squeezes large amounts of information into very small amounts of disk space.  For
instance a "Catalog" of computer printers that includes 100 information Items
organized into categories of "Laser"/Dot Matrix"/"Ink Jet" and "Color", each with a high
quality photo and 2-3 pages of text would easily fit onto a standard 3.5" Floppy
Diskette.

The Graphic Impressions' MiniCat viewer is a simple, user friendly way to find and
view information.  Categories are presented to the user as command buttons, each
with a caption describing the contents of the category.  When a user clicks on a
command button the Category is displayed as a series of small pictures each with
their own caption which are commonly referred to as icons or Thumbnails.  These
Thumbnails each represent one Information Item.
