Pacific Rim

Traditional

Ash Shaft Steering Paddles

This laminated fir and mahogany lay-up is available in both the traditional and teardrop styles.

The shaft is a five part laminate of ash and douglas fir, and for added strength, the glue joints are perpindicular to the plane of the powerface.

These paddles are shaped from one glued-up piece of wood. The shoulder area is slightly raised and gently rounded to aid the steersman's control of the blade when against the canoe's gunnel. This blade "planes" evenly and will not pull away from the canoe.

Sawyer

Straight Steering

The shaft is a strong lay-up of ash and douglas fir. The area where the shaft meets the blade is wrapped with a coating of "dynell", a hard and durable substance which protects the shaft and gives it increased strength. Ash edgin and a synthetic tip make this a bombproof steering blade.

Black Blade

Zaveral

5° Steering Paddle

Michael Dodd crafts these beautiful, lightweight blades from a blend of western red cedar and graphite. The blade core is a laminate of cedar and multi-directional graphite, all vacume bagged on a curved mold using West Systems epoxy to glue and encapsulate the blade and shaft into a single unit. The shaft and grip are crafted out of a singled glued-up laminate of cedar. The shaft has a graphite stringer glued into it. The paddles are finished with multiple coats of linear polyurethane. These blades enter the weater cleanly, are light, and have an excellent grip.

Outrigger Steersman

Zaveral paddles are fabricated from carbon fiber cloth with epoxy. The paddle blade, which has a foam core, is foiled and has very thin edges for the cleanest entry/exit possible. The blade flows into a light weight, hollow shaft which in turn makes a smooth transition to a comfortable palm grip. Very nicely balanced and light weight.

Mudbrook crafts a handsome, durable, light weight paddle from poplar, basswood, hard maple, white cedar, and western red cedar. The strong, nicely ovaled shaft is a laminate of poplar and basswood.
