Macintosh Instructions - MacTCP and ConfigPPP Setup for Macintosh

For Macintosh System 7.5.3 – 7.5.5

  1. Open the hard drive; While holding down the Option key, double-click on the system folder
    in the hard drivewindow.The hard drive window should be replaced with the System Folder
    window.
  2. Insert Disk 1 and open it. Place the disk 1 window, and the system folder window side by side.
  3. Drag and drop the ConfigPPP program icons from Disk 1 onto Control Panels Folder.
  4. Drag and drop the PPP Extension icon from Disk 1 onto the Extensions Folder.
  5. Close the System Folder Window
  6. Open the hard drive and create a new folder named Internet. ( Click File then click New Folder)
  7. Drag and drop the Netscape Installer from Disk 1 onto the Internet Folder.
  8. Eject Disk 1 and Insert Disk 2 and open it.
  9. Drag and drop all of the programs on Disk 2 onto the Internet Folder.


At this point all of the software is on your hard drive. Now we must configure the individual Internet
components.

TCP/IP SETTTINGS
Open the control panel from the apple menu.
Select TCP/IP in the control panel.
Connect via; select Mac PPP
Configure; select PPP Server
IP Address; select: will be provided by server
Subnet Mask; select: will be provided by server
Router Address; select: will be provided by server
Name server address: in the box, type; 198.68.31.225 press return, then type 208.7.50231
Search domains: type wave.net

That is all that needs to be set in the TCP/IP. Close the window

Now to configure the ConfigPPP.
Select the ConfigPPP on the control panel.
(This is the program the user will want to use to login for a PPP session. It should have Open,
Soft Close
, etc... buttons.)
Choose the port to connect the modem through (Modem, Printer, or Geo ports).
Idle timeout sets how long a period of inactivity from the user computer before it logs out (user discretion).
Echo interval should be set to off.
Terminal Window doesn't need to be active (not Xed).
Hangup on Close doesn't need to be active (not Xed).
Quiet Mode doesn’t need to be active (not Xed).
PPP Server is a saved setting for their Server (WaveNet). A new one should be created (by pressing
the New... button and entering the new name) with the PPP Server name of wave.net (user discretion).

Select the Config... button to setup their configuration for their PPP access.
PPP Server name should be wave.net.
The port speed depends on the user's modem. 1200, 2400, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600 should be
available(Choose the speed most appropriate to your modem.)
Flow Control should be both RTS/CTS (DTR).
Phone is where the user enters the WaveNet phone number. (If they have call waiting they should use
the prefix *70,).Refer to back page for phone numbers that are correct for your modem speed.

Modem Init must have at least at in it. This is the modem initialization script.
Everything else should be fine unless you have a slower modem (2400). If you has a slower modem the
MTU needs to be set to something like 300 (This is done in the LCP options - the Maximum Receive Unit
should be set to the smaller speed - the default is 1500).

This should be all that needs to be set in the ConfigPPP windows.
The user can make their own personal changes and/or additions as they see fit.
The user logs in by pressing the Open button in the ConfigPPP window.
The user logs out by pressing the Hard Close button.

Now we will install and configure Netscape

  1. Open the Internet Folder in the hard drive.
  2. Double Click on the Netscape 1.1N Installer Icon.
  3. Click Continue
  4. If you have a 68000 or Power Macintosh follow the insturctions on the screen to install fat binary.
  5. Click Select Folder
  6. Click Internet folder
  7. Click Select
  8. Click Install
  9. At "Installation is Successfu"l screen click Quit
  10. You chould now have a Netscape 1.1N Icon in your Internet folder.


To run Netscape Double Click on the icon.

  1. Click and hold mouse button on Options at the top of the screen and choose preferences.
  2. In the Home Page Location Box type http://www.wave.net.
  3. Click and hold the down arrow to the right of Window and Link Styles and Choose Mail and News
  4. For the Mail (SMTP) Server type tidal.wave.net .
  5. For Your Name type Your Name
  6. For Your E-Mail Address type your e-mail address (your_login@wave.net)
  7. Click the OK button
  8. Click and hold mouse button on Options at the top of the screen and choose Save Options.
  9. Netscape is now configured.
