For Macintosh System 7.0 – 7.5.1

  1. Insert disk 1 and open it.
  2. Open the hard drive; place the hard drive windows and the ‘Disk 1’ window side by side.
  3. While holding down the Option key, double-click on the system folder in the hard drive
window. The hard drive window should be replaced with the System Folder window.
  4. Release the Option key. Drag and drop the MacTCP and the ConfigPPP program icons
from Disk 1 onto Control Panels Folder.
  5. Drag and drop the PPP Extension icon from Disk 1 onto the Extensions Folder.
  6. Close the System Folder.
  7. Open the hard drive and create a new folder named Internet. ( Click File then click New Folder)
  8. Drag and drop the Netscape Installer from Disk 1 onto the Internet Folder.
  9. Eject Disk 1 and Insert Disk 2 and open it.
  10. Drag and drop all of the programs on Disk 2 onto the Internet Folder.

At this point all of the software is on your hard drive. Now we must configure the individual Internet
components. We start with MacTCP:

  1. Open the control panel from the apple menu.
  2. Select MacTCP on the control panel.
  3. There should be a window with a PPP icon, a place for an IP Address, and a selectable
    button called  more.
  4. The PPP icon should be highlighted - if not, have the user do so.
  5. It does not matter what the IP Address is set to (it will probably be something like 192.0.0.0).
  6. Click on the more button.
  7. The user should now see a screen that is the main configuration screen.
  8. Select Server in the Obtain Address box.
  9. Select C for the Class in the IP Address window.
  10. Enter wave.net in the first row of Domain section of the Domain Name Server Information Box.
  11. Enter 198.68.31.225 in the first row of the IP Address section of the Domain Name Server
    Information Box.
  12. Enter . in the second row of the Domain section of the Domain Name Server Information Box.
  13. Enter 208.7.50.231 in the second row of the IP Address section of the Domain Name Server
    Information Box.
  14. Make sure the user sets the default button to the same line that wave.net was set (first row).

That is all that needs to be set in the more section of MacTCP. The Gateway Address does not matter -
our computer gives them that infomation. Remember to make sure the PPP icon is selected in the
first MacTCP window.

Now to configure the ConfigPPP.

  1. Select the ConfigPPP on the control panel.
  2. This is the program the user will want to use to login for a PPP session. It should have
    Open, Soft Close, etc... buttons.
  3. Choose the port to connect the modem through (Modem, Printer, or Geo ports).
  4. Idle timeout sets how long a period of inactivity from the user computer before it logs
    out (user discretion).
  5. Echo interval should be set to off.
  6. Terminal Window doesn't need to be active (not Xed).
  7. Hangup on Close doesn't need to be active (not Xed).
  8. Quiet Mode doesn't need to be active (not Xed).
  9. PPP Server is a saved setting for their Server (WaveNet). A new one should be created
(by pressing the New... button and entering the new name) with the PPP Server name of
    wave.net (user discretion).
  10. Select the Config... button to setup their configuration for their PPP access.
  11. PPP Server name should be wave.net.
  12. The port speed depends on the user's modem. 1200, 2400, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600
should be available. Choose the speed most appropriate to your modem.
  13. Flow Control should be both RTS/CTS (DTR).
  14. Phone is where the user enters the WaveNet phone number. (If they have call waiting they
    should use the prefix *70,).
  15. Modem Init must have at least at in it. This is the modem initialization script.
  16. Everything else should be fine unless you have a slower modem (2400). If you has a
slower modem the MTU needs to be set to something like 300 (This is done in the LCP
options - the Maximum Receive Unit should be set to the smaller speed - the default is 1500).
  17. This should be all that needs to be set in the ConfigPPP windows. The user can make their
own personal changes and/or additions as they see fit.
  18. The user logs in by pressing the Open button in the ConfigPPP window.
  19. The user logs out by pressing the Hard Close button.
